Rain put Kyle Busch on the pole for Saturday night's Sprint Cup race in Kentucky.

By AL PEARCE on 7/08/2011

A rainstorm Friday afternoon washed out qualifying for Saturday night’s inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway. Twenty-two of the 48 drivers had run when the session stopped, with Brian Vickers, Mark Martin, Landon Cassill, Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Jr. the top five when the rain moved in to stay.

By rule, the entire session was scrubbed and officials set the 43-car grid according to Friday morning’s final Cup practice session. That put Kyle Busch, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson in the top five.

Five drivers didn’t make the show: David Stremme, David Starr, Michael Waltrip, Robby Gordon and T. J. Bell.
